Nottinghamshire doctor publishes X-Rays made easy guide

Dr Iain Au-Yong  Consultant Radiologist and Expert Witness, is the author of a book  aimed at helping junior doctors easily identify life-threatening conditions from X-Rays.?

On Call X-Rays Made Easy is co-written by Dr Iain Au-Yong, a Consultant Radiologist at Kings Mill Hospital, Mansfield (until recently a registrar based at the QMC), his wife Amy, a Nottingham-based junior doctor, and head of radiology training and Consultant Paediatric Radiologist, Dr Nigel Broderick.?

The book is aimed at helping junior doctors, medical students, nurse practitioners and other medical practitioners to spot serious abnormalities in a patient from their X-rays, as well as giving advice on what immediate actions are necessary. In some circumstances, this might save lives.

Dr Iain Au-Yong said: “This book is a practical guide that includes visuals of X-Ray films and is based on many years of experience. We believe it will be of great benefit to junior doctors in situations where there may not be a radiologist or senior doctor around to immediately confer with, and also helpful for medical students studying for their finals.” The book covers “What to look for in chest x-rays, abdominal x-rays, bone x-rays and paediatric x-rays as well as including a section on the correct placement of lines and tubes which may be necessary for patients when in hospital .We hope this guide proves invaluable in real world clinical practice.”

The 350 page book is the fruit of three years’ work by the team, it is  published by medical publishing house Elsevier and is available via online retailer Amazon as well as most medical bookshops.
