Expert Witness deems incinerator ‘inefficient’

A proposed £60 million incinerator on the outskirts of Shrewsbury, Shropshire would be ‘inefficient’ and would have an ‘unacceptable’ impact on climate change, a campaigner has told a planning inquiry.

Expert witness Tim Hill of campaign group UK Without Incineration, said he was concerned about the impact the burner could have on the environment. Mr Hill commented at an appeal hearing in Shrewsbury, after waste firm Veolia appealed against a decision by Shropshire Council to turn down its bid to build the facility at Battlefield Enterprise Park,

Mr Hill told the inquiry he believed Veolia’s proposal conflicted with Government policies on sustainable development, climate change and waste policy.
